Preparing For Your General Pest Treatment
Thanks for choosing Mr Pesty for your general pest treatment.
Preparing for Your Pest Treatment
A little preparation goes a long way. Taking a few simple steps before your service helps your technician deliver a more thorough and longer-lasting result. The better the prep, the better the outcome.
The day before (or morning of)
Inside your home
- Pick up items from the floor (clothes, shoes, toys, pet bowls)
- Vacuum carpets and rugs, and mop hard floors (allow time to dry before we arrive)
- Pull movable furniture at least 50cm from walls to allow full access
- Clear kitchen benches of food and store fruit bowls in the fridge
- Pack away dishes, utensils, and empty the dishwasher if possible
- Make sure roof access is clear (usually in the garage, hallway, or master bedroom)
Outside your home
- Move pet items, shoes, and toys away from exterior walls
- Rake/blow leaves and garden debris into the bin
- Mow the lawn and trim edges
- Remove clothes from the line
- Pick up any pet droppings
- Clear your driveway or front curb for technician access
Special prep for cockroach treatments
- If you're seeing cockroaches in the kitchen or bathroom, extra prep is essential:
- Empty all cupboards, drawers, and the pantry - wipe items down and cover them on a table
- Clean inside drawers, cupboard hinges, under benchtops, and inside appliances (droppings and egg cases must be removed)
- Leave appliances (like kettles and toasters) on the bench - cockroaches often hide inside
- Clean behind and beneath the fridge and dishwasher
- A crevice vacuum can help remove hidden eggs and droppings
What the service includes
Your treatment may involve:
- Powder to roof cavities, subfloors, and weep holes
- Internal spray along skirting boards
- Cupboard inspections (with gel baits, powders, or aerosols as needed)
- External perimeter spray to walls, eaves, window frames, fences, sheds, patios, and gardens
- Optional extras (like ant baiting or rodent stations) if your technician recommends it
After the treatment
To keep things effective:
- Don’t mop floors or wet-wipe skirtings for 48 hours
- Dry vacuuming only for the first 2 weeks
- Wipe down benchtops and cupboard shelves before returning items
- Refill pet bowls and bedding only once surfaces are dry
- Wipe any outdoor toys that were left outside during service
- Spider webs can be removed 7–14 days after treatment (we can help with this if needed)
What to expect:
- An increase in pest activity is normal – especially in the first 48 hours
- This means the treatment is working, drawing pests out of hiding
- You may still see the odd bug for a week or two, but they should appear drowsy or dying
- Remember: this is pest control, not pest eradication – regular treatments and good hygiene go hand-in-hand.
